The head of CSTC’s brain implant committee announced that the Islamic Republic of Iran is now recognized among the top 25 countries producing brain implants.
Dr. Hossein Maghami highlighted that brain implant systems have a wide variety of applications in medicine, rehabilitation and also military projects. He added that in medical filed, deep brain stimulation by these implants could be used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Dr. Maghami mentioned that the use of brain implant systems is known among the distinguished fields of science and Iran’s global share in this technology has reached to 0.6% during the last decade. He reminded that according to the world statistical information, our country is now positioned among the top 25 countries producing brain implants.
The brain implant systems are made of different parts and used for recording neuronal signals or stimulating neurons. These implants, which are positioned in contact with the brain surface, can receive the incoming signals and transfer them to outside the brain. This enables the researchers to analyze the obtained signals and extract the required information. Dr. Maghami also emphasized that one of the CSTC’s main aims is to encourage the researchers to do research work in the field of brain implants and to end this, a scientific committee comprising experienced experts has been found.
Technology of deep brain stimulation could be used for the treatment of diseases like Parkinson's disease and the CSTC supports the research projects focused on production of the required electrodes and batteries.
